The president of the leading U.S. derivatives exchange, CME Group, is stepping down later this year.

The Chicago-based CME Group said that its president, Bryan Durkin, will be moving into the role of special advisor to the company in May.

The company’s board also recommended that Durkin be slated for election as a director at its annual meeting in May.

Durkin started his career as an investigator at the CME back in 1982.

The firm said that he “led many initiatives for the organization and has most recently been responsible for leading the company’s integration of CBOT, NYMEX and NEX.”

“He also has overseen the company’s technology, global operations and data services businesses, as well as its significant international growth,” it said.
