Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.
- Mark McNulty has joined RBC Dominion Securities as a portfolio manager, bringing a $700-million practice specializing in serving dentists with him from Raymond James. He brings a team of seven, including portfolio managers Michael Wilson, Jay Peng, Robert Mark and wealth specialist Graeme Moreau.
- Lior Valitsky has been appointed chief operating officer of Manulife Wealth. He rejoins the firm after seven years with Boston Consulting Group. He left Manulife in 2019 after serving in various roles including in corporate strategy and product development. In his new role, he’ll execute on strategic priorities and facilitate growth.
- With Valitsky joining the firm, several other leadership roles will shift. Farhan Hamidani, chief growth officer, will now dedicate his full focus to help advisors grow their businesses and prepare for succession. Julie Seberras, head of wealth planning solutions, who previously also had responsibility for practice management, will be dedicated to wealth planning. Justin Stiebel, previously head of advisor experience, is now head of advisor engagement and growth. The new leadership structure at Manulife Wealth follows the recent appointment of Brett Marchand as CEO.
- James Andrews has joined Verecan Capital Management Inc. as CFO. Andrews held executive leadership roles at CWB Wealth for more than five years, including as president and CEO, before CWB’s integration into National Bank. He brings more than 25 years of industry experience and has served in executive positions at iA Private Wealth Management, iA Securities and MGI Securities.
- Joanna Lohrenz has joined Sun Life as vice-president of insurance operations, bringing two decades of industry experience. She was previously chief pension services officer with University Pension Plan Ontario. Before that, she spent more than a decade with Manulife in senior roles.
- Scott Powers will retire as board chair at Sun Life following the insurer’s next annual meeting, May 5, 2027, completing his full five-year term. Joseph Natale, a former CEO of Rogers Communications and before that, Telus, has been tapped to succeed Powers. Natale has been a board member since 2023 . He currently chairs the management resource committee and sits on the risk committee. Separately, Sun Life announced that Katherine Lee has joined the board. She brings more than two decades of board experience, and 20 years at GE Capital, including as president and CEO of GE Capital Canada.
- Susan Greenglass has been appointed executive vice-president, regulatory operations at the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC). Greenglass was previously senior vice-president, trading and markets, and has served in various roles with the regulator for nearly 30 years. Lisa Wilkins has been promoted to executive vice-president and chief operating officer. She joined the OSC in 2013 as chief human resources officer. And Carolyn Shaw-Rimmington is now executive vice-president, corporate affairs and chief of staff. She’s worked at the OSC since 2003.
