CIBC today announced the nominations of the John Manley and Cynthia Trudell as members of the CIBC board of directors. The nominations are set out in CIBC’s Management Proxy Circular, which is being distributed to shareholders today.

Manley is senior counsel, McCarthy Tétrault LLP, a position he has held since 2004. He was in public service from his election to Parliament in 1988 until June 2004. He was appointed to Cabinet in November 1993, appointed as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada in January 2002, and also served as Finance Minister from June 2002 to December 2003.

Trudell is vp of Brunswick Corp. and has served as president of the Sea Ray Group since 2001. Prior to joining the Sea Ray Group, Trudell held a number of progressively senior positions with General Motors in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., since joining that firm in 1981. Trudell was the first woman in America to run a major U.S. auto company when she served as chairman and president of Saturn Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors, from 1999 to 2001.
