(July 5 – 10:30 ET) – The Investor Learning Centre of Canada today announced that Isabel Bassett, chairman and CEO for TVOntario has joined its board of directors as a public director.

“On behalf of the ILC, I would like to say that we are delighted to have such an accomplished Canadian join our Board,” said Fred Ketchen, ILC Chairman. “Ms. Bassett’s exceptional background in the fields of journalism, teaching, public and community service will undoubtedly help us move the ILC forward in imaginative and productive ways.”

Elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in June 1995, representing the Toronto riding of St. Andrew – St. Patrick, Bassett served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance and Deputy House Leader. In October 1997, she was appointed Minister of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation. Ms. Bassett has over 20 years of experience in journalism and has received numerous awards for her documentaries, professional career and community service.

“I am excited to be involved with the Investor Learning Centre,” Bassett said in a press release. “I think it is important for Canadians today to understand the fundamentals of investing and personal finance so I strongly support ILC’s mission. I also believe that there is some synergy between the mandates of TVO and ILC which may enable the organizations to work together on projects of mutual interest.”
