(May 3 – 16:00 ET) – Stephen P. Sibold, Q.C. has been appointed as the new chair and chief executive officer of the Alberta Securities Commission.
Sibold joins the ASC from Canadian Airlines, where he has been senior vice-president and general counsel. Prior to joining Canadian Airlines in 1996, he was a partner at Bennett Jones in Calgary where he practiced corporate and securities law.
As the new chair and chief executive officer, Sibold will be responsible for overseeing the business and affairs of the ASC. He will also be a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, which works towards the harmonization of securities regulation through the development of the Canadian Securities Regulatory System.
William L. Hess, Q.C., the previous chair and chief executive officer, recently assumed the leadership of the new Canadian Venture Exchange.
