U.S. President George W. Bush announced that he intends to nominate Troy Paredes to replace Paul Atkins as commissioner with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Bush will nominate Paredes for a five-year term beginning June 6. Paredes currently serves as a professor of law at the Washington University School of Law. Prior to this, he worked in private practice in California. Paredes received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his JD from Yale Law School.

“We believe Troy Paredes is a great addition to the SEC,” said Steve Bartlett, president and CEO of The Financial Services Roundtable. “As a professor of law and business at the Washington University School of Law, his extensive experience in securities law and regulations makes Paredes ideal for the job. Paredes brings the perfect combination of law and economics to the position. Paredes will be a great candidate for the SEC as it faces its biggest challenges; global competitiveness and regulatory structure issues.”

“Paul Atkins is a great commissioner and we are sad to see his term ending. Paredes has very large shoes to fill and we look forward to working with him,” Bartlett added.
