(October 8 – 15:30 ET) –
The Securities and Exchange
Commission and several Wall Street
firms will hold a roundtable
discussion in Washington on Nov.
1 to consider the regulation of
online trading.

The meeting will be chaired by
Bradley Skolnik, incoming president
of the North American Securities
Administrators Association and
Indiana’s securities commissioner.
The panel will discuss issues
such as suitability in an online
world. Representatives from
various regulators, online and
traditional brokerages, the
electronic communications networks,
academics, securities lawyers and
Congress members will all be on
hand for the meeting at the Monarch
Hotel.

Suitability for online traders
was an issue that Skolnik
highlighted when he took the reins
of the NASAA last month. The NASD,
for example, has proposed a rule
that would extend suitability
requirements to trading strategies,
not just individual stock picks.
The panel will consider whether
suitability should attach to stock
research distributed through Web
sites, or any other sorts of
financial advice.

To attend the roundtable,
contact Cheryl Besl of the
NASAA at (202) 737-0900 ext.
120.
