Vancouver-based independent investment dealer Harbourfront Wealth Management has added the Peter Szeto Investment Group to its roster.

Szeto joins Harbourfront from BMO Nesbitt Burns, where his team of four managed a $370-million book of business. His team specializes in investment, retirement and estate planning for high-net-worth private clients and their families.

In a release, Szeto said Harbourfront’s independent model presented an attractive alternative to bank-owned firms, in addition to offering a solid product shelf and technological capabilities.

“I chose Harbourfront because it offers the best value proposition for my clients, which is paramount,” Szeto said. “From an enterprise value point of view, [independent advisors] need to wake up and recognize that there is much more upside at a $5-billion advisor-owned firm than a $20-billion [firm].”

BMO Nesbitt Burns did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

In the same release, Danny Popescu, CEO of Harbourfront Wealth Management, said the firm plans to continue adding new advisory teams in the coming months.

“We’ve got many more large teams signed for this fall and we’re definitely having a lot of fun,” Popescu said.
