The Insurance Bureau of Canada’s one-hour documentary, “Stolen to order”- has been awarded the 2001 Silver World Medal at the New York Festivals Television Programming and Promotion Competition.
The one-hour documentary, which focused on the evolution of auto theft in Canada, was included among 2,300 entries featuring television news programs and inserts from 35 countries. For the past 43 years, The New York Festivals competition has honoured excellence in communications media that touches the hearts and minds of readers, listeners and viewers worldwide.
The documentary was commissioned by the Insurance Bureau of Canada and broadcast on Canada’s Global Television network on Feb. 24, 2001.
It highlights a thief actually stealing a car on camera in less than 60 seconds and a never-before-seen exclusive, undercover conversation with a crime boss, currently operating in Canada.
“We are very pleased that the New York Festivals competition has recognized “Stolen to Order” with such a prestigious award,” says Robert Tremblay, IBC’s manager of public affairs. “Auto theft costs Canadians approximately one billion dollars a year and cutting edge documentaries such as this one help to increase public awareness about how we can protect ourselves from becoming victims of car theft.”
