(January 10 – 11:00 ET) – The Investor Learning Centre of Canada is opening a new branch in the Edmonton Public Library on January 11. The centre will be funded by the Alberta Securities Commission, the Alberta Capital Market Foundation, and the Canadian Securities Institute.
Edmonton investors will now have free, direct access to:
- The experts at the Calgary ILC Resource Centre, for any investment questions, via a free phone line, and direct e-mail
- An on the spot Internet service with investment sites and related information already bookmarked, plus investment-related software
- Reference support from the Edmonton Public Library
- Free brochures and investor information.
Modeled on the ILC’s existing Resource Centres in Calgary and Toronto, the new Investor Education Centre will be a place for Albertans to get answers to specific questions about investing, and the role of the ASC and ACMF. The goal is to make it easy for people to learn more about investing and the capital markets.
“When we began the Investor Learning Centre four years ago, we said we wanted to offer all Canadians the opportunity to learn what they need to know about investments”, says Dr. Roberta Wilton, ILC President. “With this centre, we’re continuing that work. We’re pleased and proud to be opening this new channel for people in Edmonton, so they have direct access to independent, unbiased investment information.”
The Investor Education Centre will open on January 11, and special events will be planned throughout the year. It will be located on the second floor of the Stanley A. Milner Library.
The ACMF also helped the ILC to distribute investment books to all public libraries in Alberta.
Established in 1996, the ILC is Canada’s only independent and not-for-profit educational organization solely dedicated to providing non-promotional and easy-to-understand investment information to the general public.
The ACMF funds specific projects to educate the public and entrepreneurs about investing and capital formation.
