(August 31 – 13:00 ET) – The Canadian Securities Institute has announced the addition of a new specialized designation for industry professionals involved in the derivatives market: Derivatives Market Specialist or DMS.

The DMS designation will provide individuals with in-depth knowledge of pricing, hedging, risk management, and advanced investment strategies in derivatives. It is a designation that underscores the derivatives’ professional’s expertise in a specialized area and allows them to differentiate themselves from others in the field.

“The new DMS designation is the first of its kind to be offered internationally,” says Marshall Beyer, director of Product Development for CSI. “CSI felt that the launch of this distinctive designation would prepare individuals entering into the industry in addition to enhancing the skills of those currently involved in the derivatives market and help to establish an exceptional standard of education in this field.”

To be awarded the DMS designation, candidates must begin by having the DFC (Derivatives Fundamentals Course). Following the completion of the DFC course, individuals then choose four elective courses from the designation stream, only one of which may be a licensing course.

The DMS designation adds to CSI’s current list of respected designations such as FMA (Financial Management Advisor), CIM (Certified Investment Manager) and the highest financial industry designation available in Canada, FCSI (Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute).
