Yvon Charest, president and CEO of Quebec City-based Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. (IA) has been named an officer to the Order of Canada, the firm announced on Monday.

The Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, appointed Charest into the Order of Canada in a ceremony held at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Aug. 25.

Charest was recognized for his leadership skills and helping IA achieve “remarkable growth” and make significant contributions to Canada’s economy, the firm says in a statement. Charest is also a notable philanthropist and is actively involved with several of charitable organizations.

Charest has been named “Financial Personality of the Year” in Finance et Investissement‘s (FI) Top 25 ranking of Quebec’s financial services sector in 2004, 2008 and 2015. (FI is Investment Executive’s French language sister publication.)
