Empire Life expands digital applications to seg funds

Empire Life Investments Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kingston, Ont.-based Empire Life Insurance Company and Vancouver-based Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management (Canada) have each announced the appointment of a new portfolio manager to their respective firms.

Canaccord has brought Jaime Carrasco on as investment advisor and portfolio manager. With more than 20 years experience, Carrasco specializes in portfolio management and advisory solutions for high net-worth clients in Canada and Latin America, and runs a discretionary fee-based business.

Empire Life has hired Albert Ngo, who will work with the firm’s fixed income team to research and evaluate opportunities for fixed income portfolios. His primary focus will be on retail segregated funds and mutual funds.

Ngo brings over 10 years of investment management experience to the role and has a strong background in analyzing corporate credit across multiple industries globally. Ngo’s prior roles include senior positions within fixed income at both Canadian and U.S. institutions.

“We’re pleased to have Albert join the fixed income team,” says Patrick McGrath, head of fixed income and private placements at Empire Life, in a statement.

“His strong analytical skills and credit background will be a great asset to the team as we seek fixed income opportunities that help preserve and build wealth for our clients,” he adds. “Our fixed income team continues to use an active, multi-strategy approach to deliver solid investment performance for our advisors and customers.”
