Long time industry executive Brad Doney has joined the board of the Canadian Foundation for Advancement of Investor Rights (FAIR Canada), an investor advocacy group.

FAIR Canada has announced that Doney — a former general counsel at two Bay Street firms, Merrill Lynch Canada and Midland Walwyn — was appointed to its board during the group’s recent annual general meeting in Montreal. The rest of the group’s board was also re-elected at the meeting.

In addition to his stints at Merrill and Midland, Doney has also been a commissioner of the B.C. Securities Commission (BCSC) and was also manager of market policy at the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). Doney currently works as a consultant to the industry, writes and teaches for CSI Global Education, and sits on regulatory hearing panels for the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC).

Commenting on Doney’s appointment, Ellen Rosemen, FAIR Canada chairwoman, said, “His extensive knowledge and understanding of the investment industry will strengthen FAIR Canada’s analytical capabilities on a wide range of issues.”
