  • Gary Huebner and The Huebner Financial Group joined the Vancouver office of Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management Canada. Huebner, who worked for CIBC Wood Gundy for 39 years, manages a book of more than $700 million. In an emailed response to Investment Executive, Canaccord called Huebner “a real titan of the industry,” while firm president Stuart Raftus connected the addition of the team to the overall strategy of advisors delivering “bespoke client solutions.” As Huebner put it, “We have intentionally chosen a partner that best shares our strategic ambitions to deliver customized solutions and superior service to our clients.”
  • The leader of the Public Service Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments), which manages $204.5 billion, has announced his retirement. President and CEO Neil Cunningham, who’s spent 19 years at the fund, will step down on March 31, 2023. A release noted that an executive search has begun for his replacement.
  • Manulife Investment Management promoted Caryn Rothman to the role of senior portfolio manager and head of a new global credit team, effective March 31. Daniel Janis III, head of global multi-sector fixed income and employed by Manulife since 1999, announced he’ll retire in March 2023. Christopher Chapman was named as co-head of the multi-sector team to help with transitioning clients in the coming year. Also at Manulife, Vanessa Kanu was appointed to the board of directors, effective Feb. 28. She has more than 20 years of business experience.
  • Effective Feb. 28, Tim Currie will be joining the Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC) as a managing director. For the past year, Currie has been a principal for CanReg Consulting, assisting TD Bank in implementing the client-focused reforms. He’s also held positions at firms such as CI Investments Inc. and Assante Wealth Management during his career.
