Each week, Investment Executive will summarize notable management shifts across the financial and wealth management industry.
- BMO Private Wealth has named Brent Joyce as chief investment strategist and managing director for BMO Private Investment Counsel (BPIC). Joyce, most recently at Toronto-based Mackenzie Investments as investment strategist, has more than 25 years of experience in financial services and investment management. He’ll report to Stephen Macdonald, head of BPIC and of product management for BMO Private Wealth, the bank said in an email, adding that Joyce “will have overall accountability for BPIC’s multi-asset investment solutions.” In a LinkedIn announcement, Joyce noted that he considers the bank’s economic team and equity strategists as “top-notch.”
- Toronto-based SLC Management (a global institutional asset manager that’s a subsidiary of Sun Life Financial Inc.) has appointed Tom Murphy as president of SLC fixed income. Murphy has been with the company since 2018, as head of institutional business, and was previously with New York-based Mercer for almost two decades. As part of the new role, a release said, he will “formally lead the firm’s growing fixed income business,” which president Steve Peacher said has $188 billion (CAD) across investment-grade public and private credit markets currently.
- Effective June 2, the Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) will welcome Denise Man as the company’s first chief technology officer, plus a member of the executive committee. Evan Siddall, CEO, said in a release that Man will “keep us ahead of the curve,” adding that she has notable technical and strategic expertise. Her role will include the development of new products and technology — using the skills she gained as chief technology officer at Edmonton-based ATB Financial for the past two and a half years.
- TD Wealth has brought on Jennifer Kennedy as manager of advisor engagement strategy. Over the past two decades, Kennedy has worked at four of the Big Six banks in multiple roles, including at TD Wealth. Cari Hunt, senior manager and lead of advisor engagement strategy, noted in a LinkedIn post that Kennedy will help wealth professionals evolve their businesses, a goal that she and her team work toward through focusing on business coaching and planning models.
