(January 26 – 17:00 ET) – London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Centre have received a $500,000 commitment from Manulife Financial toward enhancing their Breast Health Program. The program is a joint effort in partnership with the London Regional Cancer Centre.

Manulife Financial’s gift will enable London hospitals to purchase breast imaging equipment. Patients will receive advanced diagnosis and treatment, while researchers will be able to improve upon image-guided, minimally invasive procedures. No comparable comprehensive and focused program currently exists in Canada.

“The financial commitment we are announcing today is an investment in the well being of the community throughout the region,” said Dominic D’Alessandro, President and CEO, Manulife Financial. “I truly hope that over time, this critical Breast Health Program will help eradicate this devastating disease.”

“In supporting the Breast Health Program, Manulife Financial is participating in the establishment of programs of national importance, and contributing to the improvement of the health and quality of life for thousands of women,” said Cliff Nordal, President and CEO of St. Joseph’s Health Centre.
