Wall Street firm JP Morgan has lured David Topper from troubled rival Morgan Stanley to join the firm as managing director and co-head of equity capital markets for the Americas.
Topper spent 22 years in investment banking at Morgan Stanley. He was a managing director in global equity capital markets and chairman of the firm’s commitments committee, which reviews and approves underwriting assignments. Prior to joining Morgan’s global equity capital markets division in 1997, Topper was in Morgan Stanley’s corporate finance division.
At JP Morgan, Topper will report to Carlos Hernandez, managing director and head of origination and distribution for the Americas. “David represents the exceptional talent we are attracting to our franchise,” said Hernandez. “Throughout his investment banking career, he has built a reputation among clients as a trusted advisor whose market expertise and first class execution is widely recognized and respected in the industry.” He is expected to join JP Morgan towards the end of July, after his commitments to Morgan Stanley are completed.
Topper graduated with a BA in Economics and Political Science from Duke University. He also holds a MBA from Stanford University.
