The RCMP has filed fraud charges against a man accused of collecting his mother’s Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) benefits for 15 years after her death.
Police announced that Bob Mougtoussidis, 70, of Toronto has been charged amid allegations that he fraudulently collected approximately $197,000 in CPP and OAS payments.
He faces two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of the proceeds of crime, and two counts of money laundering.
The allegations have not been proven. Mougtoussidis appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 27, and he is next scheduled to appear on April 10.
The RCMP’s Greater Toronto Area Financial Crime division’s Toronto North Office announced the charges. It says the scheme was uncovered by an internal investigation at Employment and Social Development Canada, which referred the file to police.
