Unemployment generally remained stable in March, according to new data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The Paris-based group reported that the jobless rate across the OECD remained at 4.9% in March, as unemployment rates were unchanged in 23 markets, rose in five countries, and declined in four countries.

The OECD unemployment rate has now been at, or below, the 5% mark since April 2022. In March, it was hovering near record low levels in five countries, the group reported.

Indeed, the jobless rate remained at its record low of 5.8% for the sixth straight month in the European Union.

Outside the EU, unemployment rates were generally either stable, or declined, in March, the OECD said.

Yet, more recent data from Canada showed that unemployment rate rose to 6.9% in April, up from 6.7% in March, it noted.
