The perpetrator of a Ponzi scheme who duped investors out of millions, using the proceeds to purchase hundreds of snowmobiles and other vehicles, has now pleaded guilty.

In June 2025, Stanley Pophal was charged with defrauding investors out of US$15 million in an investment scheme that, between 2019 and mid-2025, promised investors annual returns of at least 20% from a variety of investments, including crypto, AI technology, precious metals and real estate.

U.S. authorities alleged that the “vast majority” of investors’ money was used to finance his lifestyle, including the purchase of more than 300 snowmobiles — while also making Ponzi payments to early investors in the scheme.

Pophal has now pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges. As part of the plea deal, Pophal agreed to forfeit his vast collection of snowmobiles and other vehicles, which will be publicly auctioned.

“In addition to Pophal’s guilty plea, he will be ordered to pay significant financial restitution,” said FBI special agent in charge, Alan Karr, in a statement.

He is due to be sentenced in U.S. federal court on Sept. 2.
