Patricia Fletcher, vice-president of education with the Institute of Corporate Directors, will become the new CEO of the Responsible Investment Association (RIA). Fletcher (pictured) begins her role on Feb. 7.

“There are few more dynamic conversations than sustainable finance and the role capital can play in Canada’s just transition to a net zero economy,” Fletcher stated in a release Tuesday.

Before joining the ICD, Fletcher held senior roles at the Canadian Institute, the Hay Group and the Institute for International Research.

“The past few years have been a transformative period for responsible investing and for the RIA. Our organization has demonstrated strong momentum of growth in terms of membership, staff and meaningful industry impact,” RIA chairman Roger Beauchemin stated in the release. “Pat brings the proven leadership skills and experience needed to help the RIA advance and build on that momentum.”

Fletcher succeeds Dustyn Lanz, who had been CEO from January 2018 to December 2021, and with the organization since September 2013.

Prior to joining the RIA, Lanz worked with the Centre for International Governance Innovation. Lanz’s accomplishments as CEO include developing the Canadian Investor Statement on Diversity & Inclusion, an anti-racism pledge signed by 45 institutional investors managing over $4 trillion in assets, and co-developing a coalition of 27 institutional investors managing over $3 trillion that engages with Canada’s highest-emitting corporations to promote a just transition to a net-zero economy.

The RIA’s members include asset managers, asset owners, financial advisors and service providers who support the organization’s objectives of driving the growth of responsible investment in Canada.
