Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Raymond Gatcliffe has been named country officer and CEO of Citibank Canada. Gatcliffe, a 30-year veteran of Citibank, succeeds John Hastings, who served for 15 years in the role and remains on Citibank Canada’s board. Gatcliffe has previously served as commercial bank head for North America, and before that for Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as heading corporate and commercial banking for the Caribbean and Central America. Hastings has not announced his next move.
  • Stephanie Fadous has been appointed chief actuary of Manulife succeeding Steve Finch, who was recently named Asia CEO. Both moves are effective May 9th. Fadous is currently Manulife’s global treasurer and head of capital management. During her 20-year career with the firm, she has also led Manulife’s global implementation of IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 accounting standards.
  • Julie Gallagher has been appointed vice-president and head of investment products & solutions and capital markets at iA Wealth, a new role for the company. Gallagher was VP and chief compliance officer at the firm for more than three years, and has also held compliance and senior counsel roles at National Bank Financial and BMO Financial Group, respectively. She also served various roles at the Investment Industry Regulator of Canada (IIROC), including president of the Quebec district council, over more than a decade.
  • Andrea Linger has been named vice-president, sales and business development with Odlum Brown. Linger was previously with Raymond James Ltd. for over 13 years, most recently serving as vice-president, practice management and head of the firm’s women Canadian advisor network.
  • Luc Desbiens has joined Raymond James Ltd. as a senior portfolio manager. He was previously a portfolio manager with Mirabaud Group, and during his 25 years in the industry has held senior roles with Intact Investment Management, Pictet Group in Switzerland, and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.
  • Samarjit Mitter will be joining Ninepoint Partners as a senior portfolio manager in May, after 11 years with AGF Investments. Mitter, who also has experience equity research and strategy development, was previously vice-president equities at Meadowbank Asset Management and held roles at Sentry Investments and Scotia Asset Management.
  • Wendy Berman has been named permanent chair of the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board effective May 5. Berman is a former vice-chair of the Ontario Securities Commission and was most recently a partner and head of the national securities litigation group at McCarthy Tétrault LLP.
  • The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators has announced its executive committee members. They include chair Patrick Déry (of Authorité des marchés financiers) and vice-chairs Huston Loke (Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario); Janette Seibel (Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan); Scott Moore (Financial Institutions Regulation Branch); and Jennifer Sutherland Green (Financial and Consumer Services Commission).
