FP Canada has awarded the FP Canada Fellow distinction to Brett Millard and Jason Pereira, the certification body said Thursday.

The distinction recognizes those who have made significant contributions to furthering FP Canada’s mandate of advancing professional financial planning in Canada, a release said. Nominees are evaluated by an independent committee of financial planners.

In the release, Tashia Batstone, president and CEO of FP Canada, which oversees the certified financial planner and qualifed associate financial planner designations, commended Millard and Pereira for their “leadership, commitment and dedication” to financial planning.

Millard is regional vice-president with IG Wealth Management and sat on FP Canada’s board of directors for seven years, including serving as chairman from 2019 to 2021.

Among his contributions, Millard was involved with the organization’s transformation from the Financial Planning Standards Council, and also helped negotiate the partnership with Institut québécois de planification financière and implement post-secondary education requirements for FP Canada certifications, the release said.

More recently, Millard was appointed to the Financial Planning Standards Board for a term starting in spring 2023.

Pereira is well-known as an industry advocate and as founder and president of the Financial Planning Association of Canada.

He’s also director of the Institute of Advanced Financial Planners and sits on the board of the Individual Finance & Insurance Decision Centre as well as the national advisory board for Investment Planning Counsel, the release said. Further, he’s a member of the proficiency committee for the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.

Pereira’s direct contributions to FP Canada include supporting the development of exams and the organization’s Financial Planning Body of Knowledge, the release said.
