The Competition Bureau says its new interim commissioner will be former assistant crown attorney Matthew Boswell.

Boswell succeeds John Pecman, who was the first bureau staffer and non-lawyer to hold the commissioner title.

Boswell joined the Competition Bureau in 2011 and has been senior deputy commissioner since September 2012.

He previously served as senior litigation counsel for the Ontario Securities Commission’s enforcement branch.

Boswell will inherit Pecman’s ongoing cases, including those looking into Ticketmaster’s allegedly deceptive pricing and allegations of bread price fixing by Loblaw Companies Ltd.

He will also take on a seven-year long court battle over the Toronto Real Estate Board’s refusal to make sales data public.
