Steve Locke and Dan Bastasic have been appointed co-leaders of Mackenzie Sentinel’s six person investment team, effective immediately, Mackenzie Financial Corp. announced Friday.
Locke and Bastasic will replace Chris Kresic in the role of team leader for Sentinel. Kresic will be leaving Mackenzie to pursue another opportunity on June 25, Mackenzie says.
“Both Steve and Dan are respected portfolio managers with proven track records in investment research and portfolio management,” says Norman Raschkowan, chief investment officer of Mackenzie.
Locke (MBA, CFA) joined Mackenzie Investments with the acquisition of Saxon Financial in 2008 and he and his colleagues joined the Sentinel investment team at that time. He has 15 years of investment experience managing retail, institutional and high net worth fixed income and money market portfolios.
With this appointment, Locke will take over the lead portfolio manager responsibilities of a number of Mackenzie retail mutual funds including Mackenzie Sentinel Bond Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel Cash Management Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel Managed Return Class, Mackenzie Sentinel Money Market Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel Real Return Bond Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel Short-Term Government Bond Fund and Mackenzie Sentinel Short-Term Income Fund.
Bastasic (MBA, CFA) joined Mackenzie in 2000. He currently manages income oriented equity, high yield corporate bond and balanced portfolios for Mackenzie’s retail investment channel including, the Mackenzie Sentinel Strategic Income Class, Mackenzie Sentinel Registered Strategic Income Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel Corporate Bond Fund, Mackenzie Sentinel North American Corporate Bond Class and Mackenzie Sentinel Registered North American Corporate Bond Fund.
Locke will focus primarily on core fixed income and money market security research and portfolio management, while Bastasic will focus on high yield corporate bond and equity income security research and portfolio management.
“Combining the fixed income units of Mackenzie and Saxon has created an investment team under the Sentinel brand with depth and breadth of experience in fixed income, money market, high yield, income trust and other equity income investments,” says Charle Sims, president and CEO of Mackenzie.
