CBOE launches bitcoin futures index

The derivatives exchange will begin disseminating the new index on Dec. 14

CBOE Global Markets, Inc. has launched its new index on bitcoin futures, the Chicago-based derivatives exchange announced on Wednesday.

Following the launch of its bitcoin futures contracts earlier this week, the CBOE has created a new index designed to replicate a constant one-month position in CBOE XBTSM bitcoin futures, the CBOE Gemini bitcoin futures index.

The new strategy performance index, “is designed to track the performance of a systematic strategy that holds a long position in XBT futures that is rolled continuously throughout the period between the futures last trade dates to maintain a constant one-month XBT futures exposure,” CBOE says in a statement.

CBOE will begin disseminating the index through quote vendors on Dec. 14.

More than 5,000 of its bitcoin futures contracts have been traded so far, the exchange says.
