(September 20 – 12:45 ET) – Fidelity Investments Canada Ltd. says it is making a broad range of real-time, online information available to financial advisors and their clients on wireless devices. Fidelity is the first mutual fund company in Canada to make individual account information and other services currently available from its Web site (www.fidelity.ca) accessible to users of this new technology.
Fidelity’s new wireless service, which is fully bilingual, will offer users a range of information and services including:
- individual account information;
- fund prices;
- fund performance data;
- fund profiles, including investing objectives;
- a range of tools for financial advisors);and
- Canadian news wire coverage, starting in mid-October.
Fidelity says its new wireless service is available to users of browser-enabled cellular telephones whose cellular service provider supports the Internet ready phones. There is no charge for Fidelity’s new wireless access service other than for the time provided by their cellular service provider.
The fund company says it is continuing to develop additional wireless web applications for PCS phones, PDAs (such as the Palm), two-way pagers (such as RIM’s Blackberry), and other wireless devices. Fidelity is initially partnering with Bell Mobility and will be featured on the financial menu of the Bell Mobility browser. Fidelity will also actively pursue relationships with other carriers as they introduce the service.
“Having information where and when you need it is key today and that is driving the rapid growth in wireless usage,” said John Lee, vice president, e-Business division of Fidelity Investments Canada. “Fidelity Investments pioneered the distribution of information for users of Blackberry wireless devices in the U.S. and we wanted to leverage that experience for both Canadian financial advisors and their clients.”
Users already registered with fidelity.ca can access Fidelity’s wireless service with the same password and user ID. Financial professionals can access their Fidelity mutual fund accounts in the Professional Centre by using their existing personal First ID and PIN.
