Director, Portfolio Manager / Analyst
Patrick Russel is director, analyst and portfolio manager with Northcape Capital. He joined the company in 2008, with over 30 years investment experience. Based in the company’s Melbourne office, he specializes in emerging markets equity strategy. Before joining Northcape, Russel worked at Merrill Lynch for 18 years from 1989 to 2007. At Merrill Lynch, he was a managing director, within the Global Emerging Markets research team, and was head of the Asia Pacific Telecom and Media research team, based in Melbourne. This involved extensive travel and researching of emerging market companies across North and South Asia, Australasia and the sub-continent. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Russel worked for Kleinwort Benson (London) and as an equity analyst and prior to that for the New Zealand Government (Wellington), Department of Trade and Industry, as an Econometrician. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree (majoring in Economics) from the University of Canterbury (Lincoln College, NZ), and has completed post graduate studies in Developing Country Economics (University of Victoria, NZ) and Investment Analysis (University of Otago, NZ).
