Timelines have been established for when eligible recipients of the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) will receive the previously announced one-time supplement payment of $150.
The payment, announced in the 2025 federal budget, is intended to help CDB recipients offset the cost of their disability tax credit certification or re-certification, which is required to qualify for the CDB.
The $150 payment will be issued automatically, on either Sept. 17 or in winter 2027, depending on when eligible recipients received or became eligible for a CDB payment, Employment and Social Development Canada said in a release on Thursday.
Those who received a CDB payment during the months of July 2025 to June 2026 will receive the supplement on Sept. 17. Those who became eligible for a CDB payment since July 2026 and those who were re-certified for a new disability tax credit certificate will receive the supplement this winter.
CDB recipients are eligible for the supplement for each approved disability tax credit certificate that qualifies them for the CDB. “This includes people who received their [CDB] payments all at once for a full payment period, as well as those who have received the benefit in the past,” the release said. “For example, someone who received only one payment and is no longer eligible for the CDB would still be eligible for this supplemental payment.”
The first CDB payments were issued in July 2025. The maximum CDB amount that an adult aged 18–64 holding a valid disability tax credit certificate can receive is $2,400 a year. To date, 335,650 people have received payments totalling more than $813 million, the release said.
The spring economic update proposed measures to make it easier to claim the disability tax credit. A consultation on the associated draft legislation ended on Sept. 4.
