Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.
- Maxime Ménard has been appointed president and CEO of Fiera Capital as of July 1. Ménard will succeed Fiera founder and executive chair Jean-Guy Desjardins. Ménard joined Fiera in January 2024 as president and CEO, Fiera Canada and global private wealth after nearly 20 years at Jarislowsky Fraser, including five as president and CEO. It’s Desjardins’ second time stepping down as CEO; he previously handed the reins to Jean-Philippe Lemay in January 2022, but Lemay left the firm one year later. Fiera also announced that Gabriel Castiglio will move into the position of executive director and global COO from his current post as executive director, global chief legal officer and corporate secretary. In addition, Lucas Pontillo, executive director and global CFO, will take on responsibility for corporate strategy as of July 1.
- Marc Lecavalier and Patrick Lauzière, previously portfolio manager and associate portfolio manager, respectively, with Fiera Capital, have joined Montrusco Bolton Investments Inc. Lecavalier spent 13 years with Fiera while Lauzière was with the firm for seven years. The appointments come as two Fiera clients — Quebec-based Fondaction and National Bank Investments — announced they were transferring those assets to Montrusco Bolton.
- Paul Mahon will retire after 12 years as Great-West Lifeco Inc. president and CEO as of July 1. Mahon, who has been with the company for 39 years in all, will be succeeded by David Harney, the insurance company’s president and COO for Europe. Harney, who’s currently based in Dublin, has also had a long career with Great-West Lifeco spanning more than 35 years. He was CEO of its subsidiary Irish Life Group and most recently president and COO for Europe of its Canada Life Group subsidiary.
- Karl Cheong has joined Ninepoint Partners LP as executive vice-president and head of ETFs. Cheong was VP and head of ETF product at Claymore Investments Inc. for nearly four years, until it was acquired by BlackRock, and has more than a decade of experience with First Trust Portfolios Canada.
- Tammy Cash has been named interim global co-president of Women in ETFs, joining current co-president Kristen Winther. Cash, a marketing professional who has held senior positions with Vanguard Canada and Horizons Exchange Traded Funds, is also a co-president of the Canadian chapter of Women in ETFs. She is currently director of distribution strategy for digital channels with BMO Global Asset Management.
- Fédération des caisses Desjardins du Québec (FCDQ) has announced two new board members. René Saint-Pierre is a cofounder of envision.ai, which specializes in developing AI technologies and also brings expertise in sustainable development and responsible finance.
