Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.
- Ben Fawcett has been appointed chief investment officer, wealth management, Canada, with Canaccord Genuity Group Inc. He joined the firm in late 2023 as vice-president (VP) and lead portfolio manager, leaving a similar role at Mackenzie Investments. Fawcett previously spent 17 years with Canada Life, including nine years as VP and lead portfolio manager, equities.
- Sebastien Chevrier has joined Manulife Wealth Inc. as a senior wealth advisor and portfolio manager. He brings his Physicians Wealth Advisory practice, which is focused on providing financial guidance and investment advice to physicians and their families, with him from Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management. He has more than two decades of industry experience. Jon Durst has also joined Manulife as an investment advisor, making the move from Franklin Templeton Canada, where was a senior VP and wholesaler. He also has ETF business development and investment management experience with firms including BlackRock Inc. and BMO Financial Group.
- Sabiha Sajid has joined Manulife Wealth & Asset Management as director of business development, central Canada. She was previously with TD for more than nine years, in sales, business development and advisor growth roles in the bank’s financial planning and private investment counsel. She also worked at BMO Nesbitt Burns and RBC Dominion Securities.
- Brad Brain has joined Designed Wealth Management as a portfolio manager, bringing his 25-year-old financial planning business. He was previously a portfolio manager with Aligned Capital Partners Inc. for more than a decade.
- Laura Curtis Ferrera is leaving Scotiabank after more than a decade, including nearly six years as global chief marketing officer. Ferrera has previously held senior marketing and communications roles at Richardson Wealth and Macquarie Group. She has not announced her next steps.
- Cathy Cranston had been appointed chair of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, effective Jan. 1, 2027. She’ll succeed current chair Steve McGirr, who’s retiring at the end of this year. Cranston has been a board member since 2019 and brings more than 32 years of industry experience at BMO Financial Group, including as treasurer, chief financial officer of the private client group and head of financial strategy.
