Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Brad Missinne has joined Designed Wealth Management as a senior investment advisor and associate portfolio manager, leaving TD after 17 years. He was most recently a senior advisor with TD Wealth Private Investment Advice, and before that, worked as a senior financial planner and as a branch manager and compliance officer.
  • Jason McMahon has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Specialty Life Insurance. He joins the firm from PPI, where he spent more than three years, including as national vice-president (VP). He was previously with Canada Life for 14 years, in several roles with Freedom 55 Financial and then as regional VP.
  • Henry Kim has been appointed chief financial officer (CFO) and head of compliance at Focus Wealth Management. He brings more than 30 years of industry experience, and joins Focus from PensionID, where he was an advisor for more than a year. Kim is a former CFO of the University Pension Plan of Ontario and was CFO and chief compliance officer at CGOV Asset Management for a dozen years. He also spent eight years with CPP Investments as director, investment finance. Don Cranston has also joined Focus as vice-chair, client advisory, bringing close to 40 years of industry experience serving private and institutional clients. A past chair of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada, he was previously a senior investment counsellor, private wealth, at Fiera Capital for nearly eight years, and before that, was a managing partner at CGOV Asset Management for more than two decades.
  • Eugene Shafronksy has joined CI Financial as VP, insurance and advisor enablement. Shafronksy, who has worked as an underwriter and as a financial advisor and life agent, comes to CI from Combined (a Chubb company), where he served as head of distribution diversification for two years. He also spent two years as head of strategy with Insurtech thinktum, and more than four years with Specialty Life Insurance as VP, insurance distribution and product development.
  • Terry van Dreumel has joined Conquest Planning as VP of product operations. He was previously VP of financial planning with IG Wealth Management, where he spent more than 25 years. Van Dreumel’s other roles at IG included senior positions in personal financial planner support with Investors Group Financial Services Inc.
  • Philip Marion has been promoted to chief investment officer with Foster & Associates Financial Services Inc.’s family office group. He joined the firm in 2019 as a portfolio manager after spending four years with Richardson Wealth as an associate portfolio manager and investment advisor. Marion also held associate advisor and trader roles earlier in his 20-year career, including two years with Macquarie Private Wealth.
  • Marlene Puffer has been appointed inaugural chair of the taxonomy and transition planning council, established by Business Future Pathways. Puffer is former chief investment officer for AIMCo, former president and CEO of CN, and current chair of Railpen Investment’s oversight committee. Also announced were 16 other members of the council, including members of the financial sector advisory group (FSAG), members of the technical advisory group, official observers (including Peter Routledge, head of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions), and two independent members — Genevieve Morin, who just retired from Fondaction, where she was president and CEO, and Scott Munro, CEO of First Nations Financial Management Board. Jamey Hubbs was named vice-chair of the inaugural council, Barb Zvan was named chair of the FSAG, and Aaron Cosbey was named chair of the technical advisory group.
