The new North American trade deal will be examined at an upcoming policy conference of state and provincial securities regulators.

The umbrella group of state and provincial securities regulators for Canada, the U.S., and Mexico — the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) — announced a preliminary agenda today for its upcoming policy conference in Washington, DC, which is slated for May 20.

The event, which will also celebrate NASAA’s 100th anniversary, is set to feature a presentation on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by the lead financial services negotiator for the U.S. Treasury, Matthew Swinehart, who is senior counsel for international trade and financial regulatory policy.

Alongside the USMCA trade deal, the conference will also explore NASAA’s history, state securities enforcement, corporate governance and shareholder rights.

Apart from the spring policy conference, NASAA will also be celebrating its 100th anniversary with various other events throughout the year.

“We are looking forward to our second century of service and continuing our mission of protecting investors and supporting responsible small business capital formation,” said Michael Pieciak, president of NASAA and the Vermont Commission of Financial Regulation. “The work of NASAA members helps power the economy by protecting investors and ensuring the integrity of financial markets.”
