Toronto stocks moved higher Thursday, the third straight session of positive gains, largely on the strength of the energy index and financials.
The S&P/TSX composite index moved up 61.36, or 0.47%, to 13,050.97
Seven of the 10 TSX main groups closed higher.
The energy index gained 0.72%.
Light, sweet crude for April delivery closed down 18¢ at US$61.64 a barrel.
EnCana Corp. gained 34¢, or 0.61%, to $56.06.
Financials gained 0.63%.
Bank of Nova Scotia gained 57¢, or 1.10%, to $52.25.
The materials index 0.07¢, while the gold sub-index lost 0.13%. Gold futures closed up $2.60 at US$655.50 an ounce.
Kinross Gold Corp. gained 9¢, or 0.59%, to $15.47.
The Canadian dollar lost 0.09 of a cent to US 84.76¢.
The S&P TSX Venture Exchange gained 24.30, or 0.78%, to 3,134.19.
In New York, markets moved higher as investors were cheered by gains on world markets following last week’s selloff.
The Dow Jones Industrial average gained 68.25 points at 12,260.70, the S&P 500 rose 9.92 points to 1,401.89 and the Nasdaq Composite moved up 13.09 points at 2,387.73.
