Pamela Agnew spokeswoman for Bank of Nova Scotia reports that all of Scotia’s New York-based employees were evacuated safely this morning.

Eight employees were removed from World Trade Center building number four, not one of the Twin Towers that was destroyed in the attack. These employees escaped unharmed after the first plane struck.

Another 250 employees were evacuated from its nearby Liberty Plaza location, too. Some were relocated to a backup Wall Street location, while the majority went home.

Agnew says that the bank’s focus at this point is on providing support to the affected employees. “We will provide support in the form of any counseling that’s required, ” she says, noting that no decisions have yet been made in terms of resuming New York operations.

It as not yet been determined whether Scotia Capital’s financial industry summit in Toronto will resume tomorrow.
