(September 12 – 10:00 ET) – Scotiabank announced today that it will launch a new hands free service this fall using voice recognition technology to make it easier for Canadian consumers to access financial services using any phone, anywhere.

Starting this week, visually impaired persons will be among the first Canadian consumers to try e-Scotia’s new technology. It will enable consumers to do financial service transactions quickly by talking to a computer without having to punch in numbers on the phone.

“This new technology will redefine telephone banking by making it easier for Canadians to access financial services using any phone anytime, anywhere,” said Albert Wahbe, CEO of e-Scotia and executive vice president of electronic banking. “e-Scotia designed this voice recognition service for people who would rather talk than punch in numbers when they are doing their banking and trading on the phone. This new service also delivers on our commitment to offer Canadians more choice in how they access their financial services using the latest technologies available today.”

The launch begins with a month long pilot as clients of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind try this new technology and offer feedback on their experience. Their feedback will be used to further enhance the system for the roll-out of this service across Canada later this fall.
