Toronto’s Ryerson University and the Ontario Securities Commission have partnered to offer an internship program for business students. The program is designed to provide outstanding students of the School of Business Management with an opportunity to be exposed to some of the top practitioners in the field of securities-related accounting.

Staff from the OSC’s Chief Accountant’s Office, the Corporate Finance Branch, Corporate Services Branch, and the Market Regulation Branch will impart their expertise in the field of accounting with students from the accounting and corporate finance streams of Ryerson’s Business Management program.

“We are honoured that Ryerson is the first Business school to take part in an internship program at the OSC. This is a great opportunity for our students to acquire knowledge of the regulatory initiatives influencing Canada’s capital markets, and be better prepared for the dramatic changes expected as a result of globalization and technological advances,” said Deirdre Taylor, director of the Internship Program in the School of Business Management. “They will gain an understanding of the major issues facing the OSC such as harmonization of Canada’s regulatory requirements,” added Taylor.

“The OSC offers excellent learning opportunities. Students have commented that the work environment at the Commission is open and cooperative, and that staff are leading practitioners in their respective fields,” said David Brown, chair of the OSC.
