Global assets invested in environmental, social and governance (ESG) ETFs and ETPs reached US$187 billion at the end of 2020, according to a new report from London-based consultancy ETFGI.

Net inflows into ESG products more than doubled, reaching US$88.95 billion in 2020, compared to US$27.79-billion in 2019. Assets invested in ESG ETFs and ETPs increased by 206% year over year.

The majority of global ESG assets — 53.6% — are in Europe, ETFGI reported. Europe also accounts for the largest global share (47%) of exchange-traded ESG products.

By the end of 2020, there were 497 exchange-traded ESG products from 113 providers listed on 35 exchanges, ETFGI said.
