As a result of the recent terrorist attacks in the United States, RBC Travel Insurance Company says that it will not apply the war exclusion to travel insurance claims that arose between September 11 and 15 inclusive. The war exclusion is a standard coverage limitation that appears in many insurance policies.
“We are making every effort to help our customers through this difficult time and appreciate their patience and understanding,” says Stan Seggie, president and CEO of RBC Travel Insurance Co.
“It is our understanding that the travel industry is continuing to treat this event as a travel delay and that certain carriers are offering refunds, change of date options and credits to passengers. We are advising all of our customers to contact their travel professional, tour operator or carrier to discuss their travel options as a first recourse.”
Any additional claims under the policy, including those related to trip cancellations, will be evaluated on an individual basis, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. Claims can be submitted through travel agents, or by contacting RBC Travel Insurance Co. directly.
RBC Travel Insurance Co. staff will provide the necessary claims forms to customers and are also available to assist them in the claims process. Staff can be reached by calling 1-800-263-8944.
