Claire Kennedy has been appointed to the board of directors of the Bank of Canada, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced Tuesday.
Kennedy is a partner at Bennett Jones LLP, where she advises on tax and corporate law. She previously worked for Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP in a similar capacity. Prior to this, Kennedy was law clerk to the late Charles Gonthier of the Supreme Court of Canada.
She has served on boards and committees including of Neo Material Technologies Inc., a producer, processor and developer of magnetic powders, rare earths and zirconium-based engineered materials and other rare metals and their compounds.
“Ms. Kennedy brings significant knowledge of tax and corporate law to the bank’s board,” said Flaherty.
Kennedy is also a member of the Dean’s Council at Queen’s Law and has been extensively involved at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Engineering as a member of the Dean’s Strategic Development Council and Campaign Cabinet Executive. She is a member and immediate past Chair of both the Advisory Board at the University of Toronto’s Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry and the University of Toronto’s Engineering Alumni Association. She was recently appointed to the University of Toronto’s Governing Council.
