ASC orders former broker to pay more than $500,000 for violating securities laws

Toronto-based T.E. Wealth announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Calgary-based Doherty and Bryant Financial Strategists Inc.

The move will give T.E. Wealth, a subsidiary of Quebec City-based Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. (IA), an expanded presence in Calgary, in which it currently has one office.

Doherty and Bryant is a wealth-management firm founded by Russ Doherty and Vic Bryant seven years ago. Its services include tax planning, retirement planning, wills and estates planning and third-party investment manager selection and monitoring.

“We have known and dealt with Russ Doherty and Vic Bryant for many years,” says Mark Arthur, CEO of T.E. Wealth, in a statement. “The cultural fit is perfect and we are confident that the transition for their clients will be seamless.”

The sale of Doherty and Bryant will benefit the firm’s clients, according to its founders.

“We are enthusiastic to be joining a company that shares our vision and values and can offer our clients a greater depth of services, including enhanced investment opportunities with T.E. Wealth’s investment arm, T.E. Investment Counsel,” say Doherty and Bryant in a statement.

The transaction is effective immediately.

T.E. Wealth was founded in 1972 and provides wealth-management services, including financial and retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning and preparation and investment management services through T.E. Investment Counsel. IA acquired T.E. Wealth in 2013.
