The fifth annual Financial Planning Week will take place November 17 to 23, the Toronto-based Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) announced on Friday.

Financial Planning Week is a part of Financial Literacy Month and an ongoing venture of FPSC and the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF) in Quebec.

A number of events have been scheduled throughout the week including the following:

> a public awareness campaign that will run on CBC television Nov. 4 to 24, 2013;

> a community challenge in which certified financial planners (CFP) along with local chapters of Junior Achievement of Canada will deliver the Dollars with Sense program to young Canadians;

> the Celebration of the Profession Reception and Dinner, which will be held at the Old Mill in Toronto on November 19 and hosted by Preet Banerjee, host of the OWN Network’s Million Dollar Neighbourhood; and

> the CFP Professional Symposium at the Old Mill in Toronto on November 20..

One of the major initiatives of Financial Planning Week is Vision2020. The goal of Vision2020 is that by the year 2020 Canadian citizens, organizations and regulators will all value financial planning; they will share and assume responsibility for ensuring the financial planning needs of Canadians are met; and the country will have a financial planning profession that grants access to competent, ethical financial planners.
