Foresters Asset Management has signed the Principles for Responsible Investing (PRI).

The PRI is supported by the United Nations and is an international network of asset owners, investment managers and service providers who are committed to integrating environmental, social and corporate governance factors into their investment practices and ownership policies.

“Responsible investing simply makes sense,” said Suzann Pennington, chief investment officer at Foresters Asset Management in a release. “Not only is it the right thing to do, but in addition, the evidence suggests that integrating responsible investment decisions can increase long-term risk adjusted returns in properly diversified portfolios. It can increase quality and help to reduce unintended consequences by identifying early warning signs within companies that could lead to a significant loss in shareholder and unitholder wealth.”

The PRI currently represents more than US$82 trillion in assets under management.

As of today, Canada has 121 signatories, including BMO Global Asset Management, CIBC Asset Management, CI Investments, Manulife Asset Management, RBC Global Asset Management, Sun Life and TD Asset Management.
