Calgary’s financial community is getting back up and running in the wake of last week’s severe flooding.

Some Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) staff will be heading back into the regulator’s downtown office today.

The ASC said its downtown Calgary offices in Centennial Place will reopen Thursday, although the effects of the flooding are still being felt.

“Centennial Place has been deemed safe to return to, however, the infrastructure of downtown is still impacted by the flood and access remains severely tested with clean up, road closures and transit detours,” the ASC notes, adding that the city has asked workers to avoid commuting city-wide to allow important clean-up and repair work to continue.

The ASC says it’s complying with that request, and so, while some staff will return to work downtown, it “will also continue to manage the remainder of the operations of the ASC remotely for the rest of this week.”

The reopening of the ASC’s downtown office follows CDS Clearing and Depository Services Inc., which was able to reopen its office and resume normal operations yesterday. The Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada’s (IIROC) downtown office is slated to remain closed for the week.

Yesterday, GMP Securities LP held a charity trading day, pledging to donate all of its agency trading commissions for institutional equity trades to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund.
