Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.
- Damon Murchison stepped into his new role as president and CEO of IGM Financial on July 1, in addition to serving as head of IG Wealth Management. He was named to the post earlier this year, as James O’Sullivan’s successor after the executive was promoted to president and CEO of Power Corp. of Canada. O’Sullivan also began his new role on July 1.
- David Beattie and Darren Wolpert have joined CIBC Private Wealth as a portfolio manager and senior wealth advisor, and senior wealth advisor, respectively. The pair brings their Edgeview Wealth practice from BMO Nesbitt Burns. Beattie spent more than 24 years at BMO, interrupted by a five-year stint with RBC Dominion Securities. Wolpert also brings more than 25 years of investment management experience.
- Andrea Linger has been named head of private client services and senior vice-president (VP) at Ventum Financial, effective July 13. In her new role, she’ll be tasked with supporting advisors and ensuring their access to leadership and a platform designed to help them grow. Linger previously held various roles with Raymond James over more than 13 years, including as VP, practice management, and was also VP, sales and business development with Odlum Brown Ltd. She also spent a decade as a producer of the Wealthy Life with Sybil Verch.
- Sal D’Angelo has been appointed head of Vanguard Canada, effective later this year. He will succeed Kathleen Bock, who is retiring after 30 years with Vanguard, and a dozen in her current role. D’Angelo joined the firm eight years ago and is currently head of product and marketing. He previously served in various senior roles at Scotiabank over a decade, including wealth advisor and director of Scotia Wealth Management serving high-net-worth Mexican clients, and director of international asset management.
- Mark Russell has joined BMO Global Asset Management as head of advisor sales for Western Canada, moving from Sun Life Global Investments where he was regional VP. Russell previously spent nearly 20 years with Mackenzie Investments in sales leadership roles.
- Brenda Bartlett has retired as president of PWL Capital after nearly 20 years with the firm and more than a decade in executive roles including president, CEO and chief operating officer. Before joining PWL, she served in an executive role with CIBC Asset Management and in senior roles with Scotiabank and Royal Trust Company.
- David Merriby has been appointed future CEO of Koho Bank, succeeding current CEO and founder David Eberhard once the fintech secures a banking licence. Merriby joined Koho as chief compliance and risk officer in March. He was previously chief compliance officer with Amex Bank of Canada and Capital One, as well as serving as legal counsel at the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada and in legal and advisory roles at Finance Canada. Koho applied for a banking licence in 2021.
- Jocelyn Talvio has been named group head, everyday financial services with ATB Financial. Talvio’s been with ATB for more than 20 years in a variety of sales, relationship management, lending and client services roles. She was most recently senior VP (SVP) for enterprise technology programs, then interim SVP, enterprise data, AI and banking operations.
- Deb Hajara has been promoted to senior managing director with Ontario Teachers Pension Plan from managing director. Based in Singapore, Hajara is responsible for infrastructure and natural resources, Asia Pacific.
- Julie Gaudry has been named chair of the Canadian Association of Financial Institutions Insurance (CAFII). She’s held senior positions with RBC Insurance for more than a decade, and is currently VP, creditor and travel at RBC Insurance. Gaudry succeeds Valerie Gillis, SVP, head of life, health and credit protection at TD Insurance.
- The Responsible Investment Association has elected a new board of directors, including Karolina Iaydjieva, a portfolio manager with Rally Assets; Dan Zilnik, partner, ESG strategy, with EY; Mat Leroux, head of finance and operations at Sarona Asset Management Inc.; Theo Heldman, chief financial officer and VP, risk, at WISE Trust Pension Plan; and Michele Robitaille, managing director and head of responsible investing at Guardian Capital Group.
