The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) on Wednesday announced the new membership of its small and medium enterprises committee (SMEC), which includes representatives from exchanges, small caps, and Bay Street.

The committee provides the commission with advice on issues affecting smaller companies, including policy issues. It meets four times per year, with members serving one-year terms.

The latest edition of the committee includes: Tim Babcock, TSX Venture Exchange; Robert Cook, Canadian Securities Exchange; Peter Irwin, former managing director with CIBC World Markets; Peter Waugh, managing partner, merchant bank Mercana Growth Partners; Elaine Ellingham, Ellingham Consulting Ltd.; Dayle Hogg, founder, Aerie; and Robert Trager, co-founder and president, Vault Mortgage Corp.

Other committee members come from various Bay Street firms, including Aird & Berlis LLP, BDO Canada LLP, Dentons LLP, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, and Torkin Manes LLP

The committee is chaired by Jo-Anne Matear, manager of the OSC’s corporate finance branch.

“SMEC members will also be asked to provide input on regulatory approaches to capital raising in the exempt market, including the development of the OSC’s enhanced compliance program and the impact of new prospectus exemptions on SMEs,” the OSC says in a statement.
