C.I. Funds recently launched the C.I. Multi-Manager Opportunities Fund. This fund invests in five underlying hedge funds to give sophisticated investors access to a portfolio of hedge funds with one convenient investment.

“Through this fund-of-funds approach, investors receive the benefits of hedge funds, plus additional diversification by management team and investment approach,” said Peter Anderson, president of C.I. Mutual Funds Inc. “A mix of styles holds the potential for more consistent returns over the long term.”

The fund invests in five long/short equity hedge funds offered by C.I., including the newly launched Altrinsic Opportunities Fund, managed by John Hock of Altrinsic Advisors, LLC of Old Greenwich, Conn.

The other underlying hedge funds and their managers are:

  • BPI Global Opportunities III Fund (Dan Jaworski, BPI Global Asset Management LLP of Orlando, Fla.);
  • Landmark Global Opportunities Fund (Derek Webb, Webb Capital Management LLP, San Francisco);
  • Trident Global Opportunities Fund (Nandu Narayanan, Trident Investment Management, LLC of New York);
  • and Trilogy Global Opportunities Fund (Robert Beckwitt, Trilogy Advisors, LLC of New York).

The new fund became available on April 12, 2002.

C.I. has about $840 million in hedge fund assets, making it one of Canada’s largest hedge fund managers.
