Shawn Brayman, CEO of Toronto-based PlanPlus Global Inc.  presented the third annual PlanPlus Canada Financial Planning Awards during the of the 2018 Canadian Institute of Financial Planners (CIFPs) Conference in Halifax.

Paul Tyers, managing director and portfolio manager, of Wealth Stewards in Toronto, was the 2018 winner.

Jason Pereira of Woodgate Financial Inc. (IPC) in Toronto, came in as first runner-up and Sterling Rempel of Future Values in Calgary was second runner-up.

Stated Tyers: “The wonderful thing about participating in the PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards is that it hones the very skills that we use day to day; thereby better serving our clients.”

“The names of the winners were announced on May 11; however, the placements were not announced until the awards ceremony which took place at the annual CIFPs Conference in Halifax,” said John Page, awards chairman in a statement.. “We are very pleased to assist in the elevation of the standard of excellence in financial planning in Canada and are grateful to have the support and endorsement of the CIFPs, IQPF, IAFP, and FPSC.”

The awards competition is designed to raise the bar of financial planning while providing the public with a better appreciation of the importance of the profession. Any Canadian financial advisor can enter the competition. Competitors must be a member in good standing of a financial planning association or other professional body, and must hold a recognized professional designation.

Planners must submit a plan that they have actually presented to a client. Plans are adjudicated by a panel of expert judges whose scores are based on the quality and depth of the recommendations given, and how well the client’s best interests have been served.

Winners advance to the finals of the PlanPlus Global Financial Planning Awards Americas region competition.
