Lifecos have work to do on their websites, Forrester’s study finds

Toronto-based robo-advisor Wealthsimple Financial Inc. has been awarded the Webby Award for Best Financial Services/Banking website.

The award is notable as the Canadian startup firm was competing against well-known financial services institutions such as New York-based Morgan Stanley and Kansas City-based H&R Block Inc. for the award.

“Winning a Webby award solidifies that our brand exemplifies innovation and creativity in the finance industry,” said Michael Katchen, Wealthsimple’s founder and CEO, in a statement. “It’s the beginning of more to come.”

The Webbys, now in their 20th year, are international awards honouring excellence on the Internet in five categories: websites, advertising and media, online films and video, mobile websites and applications, and social media.

Two awards are given in each category: the Webby Award and the Webby People’s Voice Award. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences selects the Webby Award winners while the People’s Choice award is decided based on public voting.

Wealthsimple will receive its award at a ceremony in New York City on May 16.

Launched in 2014, Wealthsimple has more than $400 million is assets under management and more than 10,000 clients.
